Alex Guajardo-Garza is a licensed attorney in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and the Bar of the District of Columbia, and is the Owner/Founder and Principal Attorney at Statesman Law Firm, PLLC, a general Texas, Washington, D.C., and Federal civil and criminal law practice. Mr. Guajardo-Garza is a staunch Texan, former Washingtonian, and proud native of the Rio Grande Valley, and more specifically, Las Milpas in Pharr, Texas.
Prior to becoming a solo practitioner, Mr. Guajardo-Garza was employed by the Texas State Senate, City of San Antonio Municipal Government among other advocacy organizations and legal private practice. In the time that he has been licensed, Mr. Guajardo-Garza has handled a variety of cases, including, but not limited to, real estate litigation cases, breach of contract claims in commercial transaction matters, matters between borrowers and lenders, non-judicial foreclosure proceedings and litigation incident thereto, breach(es) of lease, tortious interference claims, breach of fiduciary duties claims, commercial litigation, lender liability claims, personal injury cases, criminal and juvenile defense, and administrative employment cases as well as cases before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, and the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, where he is also a member of the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Panel for the McAllen Division of the same. Significantly, he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
As a former Counsel at the United States House of Representatives, Mr. Guajardo-Garza has worked in conjunction with the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary; U.S. Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties; and the U.S. Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship, which has jurisdiction over a wide range of issues related to the administration of justice, including, but not limited to, federal courts and judicial procedures; civil rights and civil liberties; constitutional amendments; immigration and nationality monopolies and antitrust issues; crime control and law enforcement; and drug policy, where he has advised on legislative policies and proposals; arranging and staffing hearings/markups in connection with the same, serving on the federal judicial appointments review advisory committee; conducting legislative drafting and jurisdictional analysis; negotiations and correspondence; and performing oversight and investigative activities.
Since his licensure as a Texas attorney, Mr. Guajardo-Garza has practiced before a multiplicity of jurisdictions across the state—namely, in the following counties: Hidalgo County, Cameron County, Starr County, Willacy County, Jim Wells County, Nueces County, Harris County, Fort Bend County, Travis County; and before the Merit Systems Protection Board based in Washington, D.C.; the State Office of Administrative Hearings based in Austin, Texas; and before municipal and county civil service commissions. He also serves as pro bono Legal Counsel for the Rio Grande Valley Diabetes Association—a health-related Texas nonprofit; and he serves as a Board Member of the Hidalgo County Bar Association. Finally, Mr. Guajardo-Garza is also a member of the Texas Bar College—a professional society of legal scholars who are leaders in the Texas legal community and champions of legal education, who are committed to high ethical standards and improved training for all legal professionals.
